- Biography
Catherine A. E. Scipion is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Health Policy & Behavioral Sciences at the School of Public Health, Georgia State University. Her research is centered on the intersection of healthcare services, care pathways, aging, chronic diseases—particularly Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias—policy, and health disparities. She is dedicated to examining care pathway challenges to inform policies that promote equitable, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services for people with dementia. Her ultimate goal is to develop an evidence-based, comprehensive care pathway tailored to the needs of underserved populations and individuals in low- and middle-income countries, particularly the French-speaking Caribbean.
Originally from Haiti, Catherine has over five years of experience as a clinician providing care to older adults with chronic diseases, including dementia, in remote and underserved areas. She also served as the Coordinator of a chronic disease control and prevention program for four years with a U.S.-based NGO operating in Haiti. Catherine’s academic journey is marked by notable achievements, including the Academy of Research and Higher Education (ARES) scholarship in 2021, which enabled her to pursue a Master of Science in Research Methods Applied to Global Health at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. In 2022, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to complete her Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management at Georgia State University, where she received the MPH Achievement Award in 2024 for her outstanding academic performance and contributions to public health. She earned her Medical Degree from the State University of Haiti, Faculté de Médecine et de Pharmacie, in 2017.
