Congratulations to School of Public Health faculty and staff on their recent honors.
Gerardo Chowell, Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, was quoted in a feature story in Nature on the future of monkeypox
Sushma Dahal, a doctoral student in the Department of Population Health Sciences, was quoted in the Mexican newspaper Expansión Política on a study published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases in which she was the lead author.
Two School of Public Health faculty members were quoted in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article on COVID-19 precautions among the public.
- Michael P. Eriksen, Regents’ Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Behavioral Sciences; and
- Richard Rothenberg, Regents’ Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences
Amanda Gilmore, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Behavioral Sciences, was selected as a Subject Matter Expert Consultant for the Department of Defense Military Operational Medicine Research Program (MOMRP) in the area of psychological health, which includes but is not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, other psychiatric disorders, assaultive behaviors, and substance abuse.
Matt Hayat, Professor and Chair of the Department of Population Health Sciences, delivered an invited seminar at the University of Georgia College of Public Health titled “Misuses and abuses of statistical significance.”
Ike Okosun, Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, has been elected to the Board of the American College of Epidemiology (ACE), a professional organization dedicated to continued education and advocacy for epidemiologists in their efforts to promote sound science and public health.
Christine Stauber, Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, delivered a talk titled “Global and Local Perspectives on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Health” as part of the Currents of Public Health webinar series. The recording can be viewed here.
Sheri Strasser, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Behavioral Sciences, has been named Faculty Director of Experiential Learning and Workforce Development for the Office of Applied Practice Experiences and Career Services (APECS). In this role, she oversees the administrative activities and strategic initiatives for APECS and actively supports innovation and growth in experiential learning, workforce development, and career services.
Scott Weaver, Research Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, was a featured speaker in a webinar hosted by the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences. His talk was titled, “Examining the role of problematic alcohol use in longitudinal tobacco use patterns among concurrent users of cigarettes and e-cigarettes.” He was also featured in an Atlanta News First story on vaping among youth.
