PhD Student Spotlights

Ph.D. student Bre Edison says that School of Public Health faculty have made her feel supported and valued while facilitating a journey that has empowered her to grow as a researcher. She was recently recognized as a member of the Journal of Adolescent Health’s “Distinguished Dozen” for her research-based contributions to adolescent and young adult health.

Ph.D. student Tristin Chipman is part of the inaugural cohort of the A-PREVENT (Alcohol Prevention Research on Violence, Equity and Novel Techniques) training program, which prepares the next generation of scholars to address alcohol misuse and its association with violence.

Kennicia Fortson, the recipient of the school’s 2024 Ph.D. in Public Health Achievement Award, has presented her research findings on health inequities among underserved and marginalized populations at national conferences.

International Ph.D. student Grace Lin had a world of choices for her academic journey. She says she was drawn to the Georgia State School of Public Health by its research and academic reputation, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with local and state agencies on environmental health projects.

Ph.D. student Amanda Bleichrodt, who was drawn to the Georgia State SPH because of her interest in infectious disease epidemiology, has presented her research findings at an international conference and seeks to apply her knowledge and skills at the CDC after graduation.

Ph.D. candidate Ashley Watson chose public health as a career after learning about health disparities and their impact on her community.
