Funding Your Education

Understanding the Cost

Financing Your Degree
From scholarships and fellowships to graduate assistantships, federal aid and student loans, there are several options for funding your graduate education at Georgia State. That’s The State Way.
- The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) provides additional information on Financing Your Degree.
- Georgia State has implemented a payment plan that will allow a student to defer up to 50% of tuition and fees until a later period.
Graduate Research Assistantships
A limited number of Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) positions funded by faculty grants are offered. GRA positions provide stipends and tuition waivers for up to 20 hours per week. GRA positions are not guaranteed.
Fellowships & Scholarships
There are many foundations, societies and government agencies that offer funding opportunities for graduate students. The Graduate School provides a list of national and Georgia State community resources to fund your graduate education.
Other Sources of Assistance
There are many other ways to fund your education, including student loans, part-time employment, employer tuition assistance and veterans benefits. Student Financial Services can guide you through the process.
School of Public Health Scholarships
Eligible students will receive an email from the Office of Academic Affairs to notify them when the application period has opened.
For incoming MPH Students
Award: $2,500
Criteria:
- Demonstrated financial need;
- Incoming grade point average of 3.0 or higher;
- Legal resident of the state of Georgia;
- Applicants should demonstrate passion for public health and promise as a future public health leader in the state of Georgia.
For MPH students
Award: $1,000
Criteria:
- This scholarship shall be awarded to a student in the Master of Public Health program who has demonstrated financial need, an interest in pursuing program evaluation, and a desire to understand how programs make a difference.
- Applicants must currently have a 3.5 GPA at Georgia State University or have completed their bachelor’s degree with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
- When possible, the scholarship will be granted to an immigrant or child of an immigrant who has become a naturalized citizen or permanent resident.
For MPH students
Award: $1,000
Criteria:
- This scholarship shall be awarded to a student in good academic standing in the Master of Public Health program who has demonstrated financial need.
- The recipients(s) of the award must show a strong interest in health equity and community engagement.
- Applicants must currently have a 3.5 GPA at Georgia State University or have completed their bachelor’s degree with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
For undergraduate students
Award: $1,000
Criteria:
- Be in good academic standing and degree-seeking in the School of Public Health.
- Have a demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
For undergraduate or graduate students
Award: $1,000
Criteria:
- Have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
For undergraduate or graduate students
Award: $1,500
Criteria:
- Have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
For undergraduate students
Award: $1,000
Criteria:
- Be in good academic standing in the School of Public Health.
- Have reached the junior or senior academic level.
- Have a demonstrated interest in a career in Public Health.
- Have a demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
Student Financial Services provides resources for prospective and current students to understand and search scholarship opportunities.
The Scholarship Resource Center offers guidance and support to current students seeking financial assistance by providing year-long promotion of scholarship opportunities. The center is open to all students regardless of financial aid eligibility status.
