Daniel J. Whitaker received his PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1996. He worked as a scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1997 to 2007. He became a Team Leader in June of 2002 in the Prevention Development and Evaluation Branch, where he led a team of researchers that conducted prevention research in the areas on child maltreatment and intimate partner violence. Dr. Whitaker became the Director of the National SafeCare® Training and Research Center in January of 2008, and a Professor of Public Health at Georgia State University in August 2008. He has published over 50 manuscripts and book chapters, including papers in the American Journal of Public Health, Child Maltreatment, and Aggression and Violent Behavior. Whitaker has served as the CDC advisor to the American Medical Association’s National Advisory Committee on Violence and Abuse, and on the advisory board for Healthy Families Georgia and the National Family Preservation Network.
