Jessica Howell Evaluates Smoking Cessation Program for ACS
3/24/2008
Where is your practicum?
American Cancer Society, Behavioral Research Center
What are you working on?
At ACS, I'm developing a survey tool to conduct a process evaluation of an employer-based smoking cessation program, determining how the program is being implemented and ways it can be improved, taking this information to conduct an outcomes evaluation for a specific work site and determining how successful the program is in getting people to make a quit-attempt.
What is your role?
I am interviewing employees who have trained to facilitate the program in their company and analyzing results and providing feedback to my team, which includes people from the Behavioral Research Center, Health Promotions division, and Corporate Communications division.
How is the experience so far?
The experience has been challenging and very informative. Because I'm working on a team that brings together multiple divisions, I'm learning how important it is to have a thorough understanding of my work and be able to present it in a variety of ways. While there are certain challenges to working in a very large organization, I'm enjoying the unique collaborative culture the American Cancer Society has to offer.
