Dr. Okosun is a chronic disease epidemiologist. He is an internationally recognized expert in the epidemiology of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. Dr. Okosun’s research in diabetes, hypertension, obesity and insulin resistance syndrome has provided an understanding of the epidemiology of these diseases. His work on the role of abdominal obesity in explaining racial/ethnic variations for cardiovascular diseases has furthered understanding of lipid biology.

Among other recognitions, Dr. Okosun is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health, The North American Association for the Study of Obesity and the Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene. A member of the American Academy of Health Behavior, Dr. Okosun serves on the nutrition consultation team for the CDC Community Guide to Preventive Services. Dr. Okosun is a member of many scientific organizations including, American Public Health Association, Society for Epidemiologic Research, North American Association for the study of Obesity, International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Blacks and the American College of Epidemiology.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Public Health in the Institute of Public Health, Georgia State University.
