MPH Admission Requirements

Master of Public Health Degree Admissions Requirements

Apply to the program

In order to be admitted to the Master of Public Health (MPH) program, you must:

  • Complete the College of Health and Human Sciences Application for Graduate Study AND the Institute of Public Health’s Supplemental Application for Admission. To obtain the application materials please go to the Instructions and Forms page or contact the Office of Academic Assistance College of Health and Human Sciences at 404-413-1000.
  • Submit the $50.00 Application Fee. A check or money order (in U.S. currency) should be made payable to Georgia State University. This fee is nonrefundable.
  • Submit two (2) transcripts from each college and/or university attended. Transcripts are required regardless of length of stay or if the grades are listed on another school's transcript. You will collect and submit all unopened transcripts. If needed, Transcript Request forms can be downloaded.
  • Three references from individuals knowledgeable of the applicant’s academic, professional and intellectual abilities.
  • A statement of interest and professional intent.
  • A resume.
  • Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Applicants with an earned doctorate (M.D., Ph.D., J.D., or Sc.D.) from an accredited institution in the United States do not have to take either examination.

    Georgia State University is a testing site for the GRE. You may request registration and test preparation information from the GSU Testing Center by calling (404) 413-1740 or at http://www.gre.org/. In most cases, you can also request GRE information from a four-year college in your area. For applicants taking the GMAT you may request registration and test preparation information from the Graduate Management Admissions Council by calling 1-800-GMAT-ORG or at http://www.mba.com/. Please note that exam scores should be submitted in time for the application deadline of April 1st for Fall admission and September 1st for Spring admission. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for receipt of official scores when taking the computerized test.
  • Certificate of Immunization. This is required for accepted applicants who have never attended Georgia State University. If admitted, you must submit this form to Georgia State University Health Services (address on form) prior to registration.

International Applicants

International applications must also include the following items in addition to those listed above:

  • The Foreign Student Financial Statement (for international applicants seeking a student visa). See International Applicants document.
  • Official TOEFL score (for applicants whose native language is not English). If available, please include a copy of your TOEFL score in your application packet.
  • International credential evaluation (for applicants who have completed any education outside the U.S. ). See International Applicants document.


Admission Calendar and Deadlines

MPH applicants are considered for admission only in the Fall or Spring terms of each year. Deadlines for receipt of a completed applications packet (including transcripts and test scores) for each term are:

Fall Semester (2006 and thereafter): March 1
Spring Semester (2007 and thereafter): September 1
