Dr. Gieseker received her PhD in Analytical Health Sciences - Epidemiology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and has worked as an epidemiologist at The Children's Hospital in Denver, CO, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Stop Transmission of Polio project in Tanzania , the Polio Eradication Branch, National Immunization Program, CDC, and the Division of International Health, Coordinating Center for Global Health at CDC. She has over 15 years of teaching experience including serving as faculty for the Kenya Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP) in Nairobi , Kenya and as course organizer and faculty for the Regional Emerging Diseases Intervention (REDI) Centre Field Epidemiology Training Course in Singapore .

Dr. Gieseker has been involved with both US and international outbreak investigations including: Cyclospora cayetanensis , E coli O157:H7, Salmonella newport and Aflatoxin as well as a review of the acute flaccid paralysis surveillance system in Pakistan, a review of the traffic injury surveillance in Kenya and a review of the diarrheal illness surveillance in Singapore. Additionally, her research has focused on describing the evidence-base of public health, looking specifically at the quantifiable measures of attributable fraction and preventive fraction which measure the association of risk factors, interventions, and disease conditions.
