The Public Health Institute Student Association (PHISA) has already scheduled many meetings and events (social, professional development), and will be co-sponsoring guest speakers at the monthly Public Health Grand Rounds.
Please come and get involved!
FALL 2007
The first social event/business meeting of the fall 2007 semester was August 28 in Decatur, and the second event was October 17 in midtown Atlanta. Students in attendance received a PHISA T-shirt.
A successful election was conducted, as well as a secondary follow-up election after the second business meeting in mid-October. We have filled every position (see list below, and preferred e-mail for PHISA communications). Please contact the PHISA leaders to get more involved!

SPRING 2008
PHISA has been actively involved in the Georgia Legislative session by partnering with HealthSTAT (www.healthstatgeorgia.org) to advocate for proper funding for Grady
Hospital. Students have also participated in a city council meeting in support of Grady funding. This Spring, PHISA will sponsor a lunch and learn session on the uninsured that will present challenges and opportunities for covering the uninsured. Students are also encouraged to join PHISA for the Spring community service event by volunteering to work at the GSU water station during the ING Georgia Marathon.
SUMMER 2007
Multiple community service activities to benefit Georgia State University, Atlanta, and international destinations were held spring semester, including on Earth Day weekend April 19-22 and at MedShare on May 5 (details provided to students by e-newsletters and e-vites).
Eight Public Health Institute Student Association (PHISA) members, led by President Jennifer Boehm, with guests, participated in a service activity with MedShare on March 31; on May 5, two students and PHISA Advisor Dr. Derek Shendell returned to help MedShare again. PHISA had several service and professional development activities during the 2007 spring semester, with a social event on May 10 to finish off the academic year.
