Preliminary analysis of their qualitative data suggests that the stigma associated with an HIV positive status is still very strong, anti-retroviral treatment has only become widely available in the last year, and deeply-held cultural traditions such as polygamous marriages, widow inheritance and male circumcision rites might present significant risk factors for HIV transmission.
