Applicants who submit completed applications by the Spring deadline will be notified of their admission decision no later than November 15; applicants who submit a completed application by the Fall deadline will be notified of their admission decision no later than May 1.
Applications received after the deadlines will be considered on a space-available basis. Contact the Office of Graduate Admissions & Academic Assistance (404-413-1452 or publichealthadvising@gsu.edu ) for information.
Though students are admitted for fall and spring semester enrollment, a larger number of students are accepted during the fall admission cycle. Most applicants are required to take either the GRE or GMAT and to supply their cumulative GPA. While no minimum GRE scores or GPA are required for admission, applicants who score below the 50th percentile on the GRE and/or have a GPA below a 2.75 will be unlikely to be admitted into the Master of Public Health or Certificate in Public Health programs. Admitted applicants average a GRE score in the mid-1100s and an average GPA of 3.3; however, GRE scores and GPA alone will not guarantee admission into the program. Applications will still be reviewed individually and holistically by the Admission Committee. The committee will take into account academic preparation, academic and professional focus, professional experience and references.
Application Status
You may check the status of your application online by choosing “Admissions Status” at student.gosolar.gsu.edu. Please allow three weeks after submitting your application to check its status. If you are unable to access your application status, please contact the Office of Academic Assistance.
Reapplying to the Institute of Publich Health
If you were previously denied admission into the Master of Public Health or Certificate in Public Health programs, you should contact the Office of Graduate Admissions & Academic Assistance at 404-413-1452 or publichealthadvising@gsu.edu about the process for re-applying. At a minimum, re-applicants will need to submit a new application, an updated resume and a new Statement of Interest and Professional Intent. Re-applicants are also encouraged to submit updated test scores, transcripts and letters of reference if available.
THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO APPLY TO THE PROGRAM. PUBLIC HEALTH APPLICANTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT AN ONLINE APPLICATION.
ADDITIONAL APPLICATION MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED
The institute uses a self-managed application for admission to its graduate programs. This means that it is your responsibility to prepare or collect all credentials other than official test scores and submit them at one time to the Office of Academic Assistance.
A self-managed application requires appropriate planning on your part to allow time for you to prepare the applications properly and collect all of your transcript and recommendations. This process, however, also gives you control over when your application is complete. It eliminates the need for concern over lost or misdirected applications, transcripts or recommendations.
Do not submit an incomplete application packet. Incomplete packets will not be considered for admission.
We strongly suggest that you maintain your own records by keeping a copy of your application and ordering duplicate copies of transcripts and recommendation letters.
The following items are needed but not included in the packet you mail to the Office of Academic Assistance.
Applicants who have not taken the GRE in the last five years and plan to apply for the Spring 2012 semester must take the GRE General Test by July 31, 2011 (no exceptions). After this date, a revised GRE test will be administered by ETS that will not arrive at Georgia State in time for the spring admission cycle. For further details about the revised GRE, visit the Educational Testing Service website: http://www.ets.org/gre
Official GRE or GMAT scores should be sent directly to Georgia State University from Educational Testing Service (ETS). The correct institution code for Georgia State University for both tests is 5251. A department code is not used.
For information on the GRE, visit their website at www.gre.org or call 1-800-GRE-CALL. For GMAT information, visit their website at www.gmac.org.
Applicants with an earned doctorate (including an M.D. or J.D.) from an accredited institution in the U.S. do not need to take either examination.
